About Wokingham Festival
A history of the festival and the team involved
“Wouldn’t it be great if Wokingham had its own Festival?!”
That’s how it all started, with a local resident who fancied a Bank Holiday festival for those who weren’t keen on the mud and mayhem of Reading! Plenty of good music, food and beer in a safe and fun environment for the whole family.
And so, in 2007, Wokingham Festival was born.
For the first couple of years, the festival was council backed. Then the council withdrew their funding, and Wokingham Festival Ltd was created to continue running the event independently.
14 years later, we moved from the original site in the town centre to our current site in Cantley Park, to accommodate the growing attendees, and loving every minute of running a music festival.
Originally open on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday, in 2019 it became a full 3 day event, opening on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Wokingham Festival Ltd is not for profit company, limited by guarantee, and is made up of local volunteers who are all Wokingham residents. There are no shareholders, and the festival does not make a profit for the organisers - a team of local people who love a good time. It is a completely independent festival, relying on ticket sales, traders, and sponsorship, supplemented by any small grants we can secure to cover the costs of running the event.
The Festival has grown over the years, and as well as a larger site, we now have a core team of five people involved in the year round planning and running of the festival, supported by a wider team of additional volunteers around the event.
Come and join us this August Bank Holiday Weekend in Cantley Park.
